Fraudulent Emails and Websites |
| (!!! Draft - This article is not currently published !!!) |
| |
Please be aware of criminal attempts to collect your personal information. Emails may be sent that are made to look like it has come from Heritage Bank. These phony emails ask you to go to a website and provide your personal account information. The email will even caution that if you don’t do this, your account may be suspended. Criminals send these phony email messages or direct someone to a fraudulent website for one goal, to steal personal and financial information. Heritage Bank emails will not ask you to reply to an email with any personal information such as your Social Security number, ATM or Check Card PIN or Online Banking Password. We do not use emails to confirm, verify, activate or authenticate your personal information. Do not follow website links provided in emails. These usually lead to phony websites which may also contain malicious computer viruses intended to harm your computer or obtain your personal information. We recommend you always go to our website by typing in the address yourself or by using your saved favorites or bookmarks.
It is always a good practice to be alert in dealing with emails and US Postal mail received from any one you do not know. Protect yourself from fraud and possible identity theft by always questioning if something asks for too much personal information or just sounds too-good-to-be-true. Never send money with the promise of receiving money back. If you are notified that you have won the lottery make sure you have entered the lottery. If you receive something you believe to be suspicious contact us, using known phone numbers and addresses, not the contact information provided in the letter. Never agree to anything without researching the facts and confirming its legitimacy for yourself. Fraudsters will claim you must hurry, this is how they get you to make a poor decision.
Heritage Bank has made a commitment to keep your financial and personal information secure and confidential. If you learn you have become a victim of identity theft or if your personal information may have been compromised please contact us at (870) 802-2344. |
